Shipping / flying across the ocean from asia
Hi,
I'm starting a plan for a London to New Zealand trip and am saving now for either next year or the year after. I think the biggest single expense will be shipping the bike over from Asia to new Zealand. Anyone with any experience here give me an indication of costs for this? Any cheaper / easier places in Asia to leave from (Plans are very fluid right now obviously)? Also how about shipping from NZ to UK at the end of it all? Rough plan is to leave in the spring from UK and take about 6 months for the trip. Thru Europe, Iran, Karakdom (sp?) highway through to India. I'd like to go down to Malaysia, then take a few weeks touring NZ(Not visiting Australia). |
See the Tripplan / Shipping the bike section - menu on the left - for ideas on shipping costs. With 180 odd shipments recorded and hints and tips you should be able to get a ballpark figure...
Also see Travellers Stories for various people's experiences on that route. ------------------ Grant Johnson Seek, and ye shall find. ------------------------ One world, Two wheels. www.HorizonsUnlimited.com |
Thanks Grant,
Just after posting I discovered the shipping section. Only two entries for shipping from Asia into NZ, one by air and one by sea. Personally I think I'd orefer air from the info on the site about shipping taking a long time, not travelling with the bike and of course being without it for some time! Most who have done this journey seem to have opted for going via Australia first. Already been down the East cost (not on a bike mind) so wasn't too worried about visiting again so soon. Will have a hunt around in the travellers stories section too.. |
why don't you ride all the way down into Indonesia and then ship from there. eg shipping from Bali to NZ. THere are quite a few shipping companies there and it is definetly worth the trip, or go all the way to East Timor and ship from Dilli with an Australian shipping company (Perkins) to NZ.
It could be a really nice option, but time consuming good luck |
Martin Rooiman and Jeanette Bloom, now home in Holland, shipped their two bikes from Indonesia to NZ so check out their story or contact them for more info.
