Bike swap: Europe vs Americas, OZ, SA
I have my bikes available to travel in Europe, from Munich (and maybe also Lisbon). All my bikes are dual purpose, I'm looking to swap for the same kind of bike in South Africa, south and north America + Australia & New Zealand.
Cheers, Joe |

Try it out
It's one of many bikes I own, and trust me it's great, perfect for a ride on the TCAT - Trans Canadian Adventure Trail. Try with a Gold Wing! Some rides, others sit on machines.

Joe, I got your PM, will revert soon, on the run now as we're moving in, thanks.
For sure a twin would be your best option -- why not ride your own 950S, no surprise, easy and not much more expensive in the end -- particularly if you choose the less traveled roads. Why swap when you can fly LH Cargo into Montreal and head straight to the TCAT from there. BTW riding on/off road in Quebec alone would keep you busy for some weeks. Even Cyril Desprès last September had a thrill there on the Orange Crush event. There's a wealth of off road trails in Quebec, you can access them easily by hooking up to L'Aventure de la Moto Double Usage au Québec ! Only glitch though is you won't be able to sell off the bike easily in Canada because of importing restrictions, same in the States, but you could fly it back or forward to your next destination, just fun! I assume you're only planning for next year, season is already on its end now, it was already snowing last week in some areas up North. |
Definitely, the 950 would be my first choice, the problem I've got is that I don't get more than 3 weeks vacation in a row :( I'm evaluating the possibility of leaving the bike there and comeback later to continue. Sending the bike over for 3 weeks, apart from being extremely expensive you'll also lose at least a week to import and export it. I started this thread hopping that there are more travelers in my situation and that a swap would save us time and money ;-)
My intention was not getting a bike to do off road trails but when you came up with the XL and the TCAT I started dreaming. Do you know if I can easily buy and legalize a bike in my name in Canada? If that is possible I would start looking for a KLR650. I got enough snow and cold here in Munich, so won't be fly to Canada to get more of that ;-) the next season would be my target, for now I'll concentrate on South Africa, Australia and south America. |
Ducati Multistrada
I have a 2010 Ducati MTS currently in the west, California is the next destination in a few weeks. The plan is to keep moving it around as we travel around the western states. We are interested in your bike.

Hi Joe, I have a 2005 Yamaha VStar 1100 in perfect condition located in Phoenix, Arizona (USA), four hours from the Grand Canyon and some spectacular riding. I'm looking to swap (not necessarily at the same time) for a trip around the EU from early May to late August. Any interest in swapping? Thanks.

BC = best country ;-)
Joe, the west is the best ;-) check out BC, in particular the southern interior (kootenay and/or rockies). 3 weeks would be a perfect time to tour around, though you could easily spend the rest of the life adventuring there, it's that incredible - stunning mountains, glaciers, fresh lakes, natural hot springs, abundant wildlife, great fishing, mining ghost towns, hippy/laid back vibes (in west koots), cool festivals in summer and best of all, amazing riding. So close to the US border if you wanted to hook up into Washington, Idaho, Montana too. Hardest part will be the making up your mind where to ride but I'd be sure to help steer you in the preferred directions.
I could swap a KLR650 or DRZ400 (great setup for on/off) or both if you wanted to do a few loops. Send me a PM if interested, I want to ride in Europe this summer and only have a 3-5 weeks so looking for a swap. Cheers! Chris Quote:
