California for UK Swap
 

I have done a lot of international bicycle touring, and am now interested in international motorcycle touring. I am shopping for a used motorcycle that would be available for a swap with someone inititially in the UK in September (will eventually be interested in lots of other places too).

I have not selected a bike - but am considering a used BMW R65 or R75. I would like to spend between $1000-$2000 on something 20+ years old with lots of miles. I don't expect to put a lot of miles on it myself (I normally use my SUV when taking road trips in N. America.) But I would be happy to loan it out - and want to get something that would be minimally attractive to others with more refined tastes.

What affordable bikes do you recommend? And what is a good way to arrange swaps?
