Renting a bike in Europe... WHERE!?
I have a mate coming to visit... we were thinking of riding the Alps... he needs to rent a bike for a week.
All bike rentals in Italy, Germany, & Austria that we can find are upwards of €700 for a week... insane... Since I live in Vienna, we could pick up a bike in Hungary or Croatia, Slovakia, or Slovania... if it is cheaper and then head out... anyone know where you can rent a bike in this area for a reaonable price???? Thanks! |
You just have to accept that you cannot rent any bike anywhere for what we would call a "Reasonable" price.

Agree with Steve, it's more "what" you get for your money. The one place I know of on the region that rents is Moto Varese - they're a KTM dealership and are absolutely brilliant, lovely guys. They speak great english and if memory serves they can pick you up from the airport (Milan). Location wise they're really well placed for hitting the Alpine passes and the Italian lakes.
Last I saw, they had 990 Adv's and SMT's, which are great on the twisties! Give them a shout and tell them James recommended you (not sure what that might achieve, but we're still in touch. Good luck! |
my mate said he found something in Sloevenia for not too bad...

There is no other solution. Except for buying an old bike riding it for a week and selling it again. Or maybe a bike swap, there is a section on the HUBB for it.
Once you start thinking about it a bit, the prices *are* reasonable. First of all, all these bikes come with full damage waiver insurance, in addition to the mandatory third party liability etc. Try signing up a brand new bike for such an insurance yourself, and tell your insurance the youngest rider is 18 ... and not to take into account any discounts for accident-free years, because god knows who might ride it. Second, maintenance and alike. If you urgently want to, you can smoke a pair of tyres in a week. How much are these? How much for other regular maintenance, oil, fluids, valves, ... ? Loss of value of the bike due to increased mileage? Compensation for additional wear ("Don't be gentle, it's a rental ..."). And on top of that, the guy who rents out the bikes, probably wants to have dinner too. And yet again on top of all that, you have the likes of VAT etc. |
GS 1200/650 for Hire in Andalucia - Free Accomodation on eBay (end time 11-May-10 07:04:45 BST)
I came across this last night. Bearing in mind the accommodation is included I thought the prices were very reasonable. I can vouch for the quality of roads in the area. San Pedro to Ronda is awesome and Ronda is a wonderful town. |
