Swop my bike in Australia for one in UK or France
i want to stay in France with a friend Sept/Oct 2023 and would like a bike for some touring around Europe. If it was a UK bike, then i'd fly into a UK airport.
I don't want anything exotic but needs to be able to carry touring gear. I can do a Honda CB500X for someone to tour Australia in 2023. I have other bikes but this would be the most practical and least expensive to repair should you have an accident. Obviously quite a bit to discuss but if you're interested then PM me. david |
Whereabouts in France is your start point/friend?
Not sure if you already know but RWC2023 is in France, 8/9 to 28/10, no idea if that's of any use/relevance? Cheers Sent from my motorola one using Tapatalk |
will be HQ'd at small village about 150kms SE of La Rochelle.
I would welcome any input from people knowledgeable about the intricacies of swopping bikes. The pitfalls etc!! Comments on how successful from anyone who has done it ? Seems a good way to make it so much less costly to tour other countries and shipping a bike from AUS is just a no no. |
Hi, i live in Belgium near France. What kind of bike are you looking for? Will it be a off road touring or on road?
|
hi FD,
an on road bike would be preferable - say something 400 or 500 cc but a 750 would be an upper limit. Don't want a "big" bike . Have you something in mind? Pannier racks not essential - could get away with a DRI RIDER PAC BAG on the seat. I want to just cruise along - 150-200 kms per day in France and quick foray into northern Spain. Thinking of bringing the time forward to March. Two weeks riding would be enough. |
Hey wigger,
I have rather large bikes running for the moment
bmw K100 bmw R850gs bmw R100rt honda pc800 and also some scooters aprila 250 and honda 250 helix I have also a bmw 650 funduro that matches your interest but it isn t running for the moment. |
hi f d,
thanks for the response. to narrow it down. I had an 83 RS100 and had to move it on because it was just starting to feel too big, esp if it went over. the RT would be even heavier. R80gs -iconic!!! and would make for a great ride. Even the 800 PC would be good. so doesn't need to be 650. Would you be interested in coming to Australia at some time and riding. I could help map out a good ride for you. Because of the size and the huge climate range it can be daunting for a visitor, trying to put a trip together. Asi said earlier, I have a CB500X available which is actually quite good to ride. I have been riding in new Zealand for the past two months and the roads are wonderful, better than Australia(more varied) but the weather has not been great. Auckland had 245mm of rain in 24 hrs last Friday. People here are telling me that Mar and April are too early for Europe if you want to do the alpine passes. I'm definitely only wanting to do a max of 200 per day so the mileage I'd put on any bike would be small. |
Hi,
If you travel from France towards Spain its not the Alps you have to cross but the Pyrenees. Very beautiful region. You don't want to be there with a motorcycle in March and April. It s not a R80gs i own but an R850gs the little brother of the R1100gs. If you want to avoid vacation high season June and September are ideal. groeetings |

I’m looking to make a bike swap with my bikes in the US. If you are not interested in coming to the US, would you consider renting one of your bikes in Belgium? |

Not sure i have grasped what you are saying. You want a bike in Europe right? So do I. Are you talking about giving me info on what is involved in a bike swop in Europe. ? Insurance is always an area of complexity/ concern. |
Hi f d
what about PC 800 -that way I could wear my best clothes. GS 850 is over 200kg -too heavy for me esp on borrowed bike? What is your plan for coming to Australia? I am in NZ at present and have been riding around the country for the last 2 1/2 months. Wonderful roads for motorbikes and the geography is so diverse. I bought a DR650 because I couldn't get a swap and am sitting here trying to sell it. It wasn't a bike I liked very much but I did a fair bit of off road so needed something like it. Not as bad as the Yamaha MTO3 (660cc) I once had but not a very nice motor. |
