Swop my bike in South Africa for yours in .........
 

Hi All

I have a 2011 XT660Z in Johannesburg to swop for your bike on any other continent. My bike is kitted out for touring and well maintained with 30,000 gentle kms (50% dirt roads. Only dropped once).
I don't plan to do anything wild on your bike, and will look after it as I would my own. Looking for similar size and also well kept.
When? Anytime from:
- January 2023 to June 2023 (Southern Hemisphere)
- June 2023 to September 2023 (Northern Hemisphere)
- October 2023 to December 2023 (Southern Hemisphere)
Repeat dates for 2024 (As you can tell, my dates have to do with the weather)
I plan to spend two years to bike swop around the world, and so avoid shipping costs. I can swop for short or long periods.....don't really know if it's possible, but hope there are takers on HU

I already have an arrangement with another HU member in Germany for next summer, but would love to then extend my trip to Canada if it works out.
I'll be using my bike from Jan-Mar'23 and he'll be using it from Apr-May'23, so it'll be available as from Jun'23 onwards (Or between now and Dec'22).

Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately my bike is already booked over that time by a fellow HU member. I'll also be riding his bike around Europe and the UK for a while next summer

Is the idea that you fly to their bike, ride it around, then give it back come home. Then they (or someone else) do the same (go to Jhb) and use your bike (in the specified times)?

I mean, this generally just boils down to people asking available their bikes for others during certain periods ?

Yup, that's pretty much it.

Even setting aside the trust aspect of it, the big problem with this arrangement is that in areas with a limited riding season, any time that someone would want to come and visit would be time when you want to ride the bike yourself, not give it up to someone for a few weeks!

Prob with enough people participating there will be situations where opportnities will open up

I guess an arrangement around insurance is also in order
