Where to buy a bike in Mexico?

I'm pretty new in Mexico and have been thinking about getting a bike here - to get around town for the next month or two while i stay in the city and after that to hopefully do a little adventure tour of Mexico & central America.

I'm not looking for anything big - not that i'm against bigger but 125cc or 250cc would be plenty for my needs. I'm sure i'll get some snarky replies on this, but i've crossed 25km across Asia on a 125 SYM bike before and had an incredible time, wouldn't have change it for any other bike heh.

A Suzuki, Yamaha or something like a SYM Wolf would be great. Doesn't have to be new - but if used then hopefully under 20k km on the clock.

Any idea where i could look for a bike? I'm not finding a whole lot of resources online, and while I've lived in Asia for years, i'm not that familiar with Mexico or Latin America just yet, only been here few weeks so far.

Thanks for any advice!

You don't say where you are in Mexico--a large country. If you want useful answers, maybe specify.

Arizona is a very good place to buy a bike--particularly a used bike. Maintenance standards in Mexico are often not so good. California's good, too.

Guatemala is also a good place to buy a bike, but nowhere near as good as the US.

I know little about purchasing in Mexico itself, although see the above about maintenance standards.

Hope that's helpful.

I have lived in several American countries since the 70's. When I retired, sold everything that was not motorhome or motorcycle related to live my dream to end my days in Latin America.

Mexico like any Latin American country Mexico perceives lots of taxes.

Paid Honda xre 300 90 k pesos. One can buy the Italika dual sport 250 for 60 k pesos.

Colombia, can't speak negatively, my wife is Colombian. There is a wider choice than Mexico, but the price are rediculous. I paid 14 k pesos 3 years ago a Kymco downtown 300, while I paid $5000 in Canada, that's $2500 or 50% more.

Brazil, beautifull country, great roads, motorcycles are very expensive. I bought a tornado for the price of a cb500x.

Mercado libre is the best source in any country south of the us border to buy a motorcycle new or used.

Elektra stores in Mexico, a home appliance store chain, carry Italika motos. Italikas are widely used in Mexico and Guatemala, easy to get worked on.
