Peru - Looking to buy a bike in Lima begin of March

I am about to travel a month (March) trhu Peru so I am looking to buy a bike for this in Lima.

Thx for the hint. If i get it right he is not in Lima directly, but that shouldnt be a problem. But if I can buy from a privat person rather than form a shop I would prefer. Anyway I will contact him and ask what he has to offer. Thank you

I'm looking for a bike similar to XRE300 Rally in Colombia, Ecuador, or Peru in February. I'm coming from a background of dualsport trailriding on my wr250r in the US.

Do you think I should be considering any other bikes in particular?

I'm in the same boat as you. I was hoping to grab Dan's bike but our timings aren't likely to align now.

From my research, a bike similar to the XRE300 is the Yamaha Tenere 250. Those are the two i'm mainly looking out for. They seem the best balance of on-road and off-road performance without being too heavy for a solo rider. There's also the XRE190 which is cheaper but less power obviously, and XR150L even more so.

Re: Toby - I think he's involved with tours at the Dakar rally which is on right now, i remember seeing some stuff about it on his website a while back. Might be why he's not replying. I've had some e-mail back and forwards with him in the past re: parking and tvip extensions.

Yeah I can highly recommend the xre300, with good tires it's a fairly capable bike. To compare it with the WR though wouldn't be comparing apples to apples, the WR is a whole different machine. So don't expect the same from a bike half the price that's made in Brazil from old parts from other models and you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Don't go for the early models (pre 2017) as they had a few common problems with injection system and the head/valves. I don't know anyone selling, it's a fairly rare bike. They're becoming more popular now since they've changed the faulty parts. So there might be more available in the next few months.

Unfortunately Jack doesn't look like the timings will work. I might MIGHT be able to make Lima by the first week of march, but even that's not 100%... More like 50% at the moment!

Hmmm and as for recommendations for another bike, tenere 250 is great, tornado 250 is a tank of a bike and bombproof, but in both cases it's hard to find a good second hand one. My advice, if you see one come up for sale on here and it suits you, get in touch with the seller, and get a deposit down. Don't leave it until you arrive, you might be surprised by the difficulty of finding a *good* bike here.

Hi there, I have a 2014 yamaha tenere 250 that I will be selling at the end of march beginning April. Not sure if you are that flexible with timing though. Let me know and I'll give you more details. One other thing is that I'll be in chile instead of peru. It is probably out of your time range and distance range but I figured I'd let you know!
