wanted motorbike Colombia end april

Hi,

So from what i have read the best country to buy the motorbike is Colombia.
But then. Better to buy the bike from an other traveller?
Or buy the bike at a bikeshop? If yes, are there recommendations? (in Bogota)
And also if yes, should I contact the bikeshopes in advance?

I am looking for a Honda XRE 300 or an Himalayan R. Enfield.

Thanks!

colombia listo

no doughs in my mind from what I have read on all the forums
I own a Colombian motorcycle and it cannot be sold beyond its borders
that being said, buying a Colombian moto is economical the prices here are on par with the rest of the world
go to Ecuador and you will pay 50 percent more and the choices are limited.
Colombia is a motorcycle Mecca more than 9 million on the road
If you are the traveller that likes to Explore you have come to the right place this place will amaze you with the diversity and friendliness and very economical
Colombia Rocks 80 thousand KMs and I still get the W0W factor every Km
the government and attitude is geared for tourism Colombia is a Magnifico place

What are saying buddy...it's true a motorbike can't be sold ( like this proper name SOLD).. but Can be "sold " by a poder of attorney AND when the bike Is coming back to colombia in that case Can be sold properly to anyone and more to a colombian resident..

If you want to buy a new bike from a dealer:
Yes, it is best to contact them in advance.

They can have to order the bike themselves. It is not sure that they have bikes in store, ready for delivery. So it is best to make an agreement with a dealer in advance. The delivery time for my RE to the dealer was around two weeks. So you can save that time.

This dealer also worked as distributor from Koju motos equiment. So I could have panniers and some more stuff mounted before the delivery. Buying direct from the dealer.

Also: Make sure that they help you with the paper work.
When I bought my RE, the dealer sent a person with me to fix the registration in RUNT. We had to go a bit outside of Bogota, to get it done without waiting. I just followed him. Passport and fingerprints + cash... Done. Very easy.

"Because in Bogota they are giving appointments several days apart, we have guided and accompanied some other foreign clients to the Funza transit, which is a town near Bogota."

Two days for the system to get updated. So I was proper registered.
Than 2 days for the dealer to fix his work.
Six days after arrival, I could pick up my bike.

I do not want to recommend a specific dealer. My choice was done based on the answers I got to some E-mails. The one that answered: Yes, no problem. we have sold many bikes to foreigners +++ other good info.

You can contact me via Personal Message if you want more information about the process. And what dealer I was working with.

If you are looking for a used bike, that is different.
I can give you some advises for that via PM

The picture is from when I picked up the bike.

sweet ride

Good choice for the adventure minded rider
Colombia rocks when it comes to purchasing a moto its a no brainer
I dont even know why you would want to ship a moto to Colombia
It is not worth the Hassle, For example
I rode into Ecuador on the Dorada-Hormiga route 45 south of Mocoa in October last year
The Crossing at Rio San Miguel is open 6am-6pm
Migration Aduanas did not even ask what I was riding Nor did they even check my plate or insurance although I was standing in my riding gear and Helmut
Hassle Free and no Lines it took 5 minutes
Coming back to Colombia from Ecuador in January this year I realized the Pan-American was rerouted from Pasto to Popayan because of massive slides , I was in San Lorenzo on the Pacific and rode the E10 - Tulcan to Nueva Loja along the Colombian border , A stunningly beautiful route of pavement, Dirt and waterfalls on the Colombian side The Pacific to the amazon in one day This is a rugged part of the Country with no traffic.
From Nueva Loja North to San Miguel border the same thing the authorities did not care to even look at my F700 with Colombian plates, welcome back to Colombia they said
Owning A Colombian Motor Bike Definitely Has its Benefits You are Free to Roam South America and Colombia Really appreciates you because you are contributing to there economy
The Locals in Ecuador Sneer at you when they see a Colombian Plated Bike Knowing that they would have to pay double the price in Ecuador for the same machine
