1200 GS Bigger Fuel Tank??

Hi All

I am seriously looking at changing from my R100 GS to R1200 GS but one of my main concerns is the tank range. Have really got used to having flexibility of 43 litres.

Is there anyone making bigger fuel tanks for this model yet as have not seen anything to date.

The best figures that I have seen on the 20 litre fuel tank is around 270 miles.(Not looking for a debate here on the definitive tank range on this bike either.)

I'd be looking for a minimum range of 350 miles. I am not intrested in strapping jerry cans etc to the bike for the extra range.

Thanks

Julio

The 1200GS Adventure expected Q1 06 is said to have a 33-litre tank which should give you that sort of range.

Somehwere on the Adv.Riders site is a pic of a larger tank for the 1200GS, made by Nico Baker in Holland. The one I saw was polished aluminium & exceptionally ugly & ridiculously expensive.

If I can find the pic, I'll post it here.

Wow that is one ugly tank, Perhaps a 5litre carrier may be better!!

There's a new option whioch should be available soon, and it's not nearly as hideous!

The tanks look good but they are very high and would be curious to know what that would do to the handling off road?

Hang on Guys, Touratech will make it soon.
I´m sure for that.

I think that aqualine tank looks pretty good, and its bound to be a fraction of the cost of anything from Touratech as nice as it may be. Just remember that the fuel level goes down from the top to the bottom, therefore at half full it may even have a lower Cof G than standard! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif

Well the new ADV is due out in the next few weeks. Personally I'd liek to go with the factory option if the tank fits. My next option is the Aqualine.

I chatted to a Touratech guy (no name sorry) at the Paris motorcycle expo last week - he was pretty confident/hopeful that the 1200GS large tank would be ready when the new catalogue is released. (January 2006 I believe)

Apparently the design is completed but they have not finalised a manufacturer yet. Seems like this is will be a complicated piece to make - both the form and the internals.

Excellent news from TT, thx. I've talked to the rep @ Aqualine and they have completed that tank, the ones in the photo are used by an off-road maginze guy in Austrailia. The only problem the had with them was the slow fueling involved which they have been working on. My guess is some sort of valve, and/or a larger plumbing to the auxilliary tanks to allow for better fuel flow. They have completed everything else and are just going ot solve this issue. I'll hold out until March for a TT and factory tank options. If nothing by then hopefully the Aqualine one will be on line.
