12GS Tool Storage
 

I'm looking for ideas as to where to mount heavier tools and/or chain on my 12gs. I also want to store things (prob. away from the heavy stuff) that I don't want to take off the bike with the rest of my luggage (e.g. spare bulbs/1st aid kit etc that are a legal requirement in some jurisdictions).

Some folks attach a container to the bashplate of some bikes but this does not seem possible with the boxer.

Any thoughts??

I have an 1100 and have thought about to store tools, spares, etc., outwith the panniers, preferably low down. After a year on the road and much thought, I'm about to mount two 110mm diam water drainage pipes (with threaded cap on one end) underneath either cylinder. For security, I'll fix a latch to each cap to which I can attach a small padlock. I'm sure it'll look ugly, but frankly, who cares?

It'd be good to see any solutions that you come up with. My main concern with going downward is reducing the ground clearance, not that I go off road that often.
