Best all around tire R1100/1150/1200GS???
What would be the best tire for a R1100GS-R1200GS on a trip where maximum mileage is the primary concern? The trip will be primarily on pavement with more than a fair share of gravel roads. All most no off road stuff. Any suggestions?

Metzerler Tourance.

I use a Metzler Tourance EXP on the front of my 2011 R1200 GS and a regular Tourance on the rear. Getting over 12 thousand on the rear and the same on the front. I use the EXP on the front as it gives a bit more traction on the road than the regular Tourance. Gives me a bit more confidence with braking and cornering. Just my 2cts.

Another vote for Tourances, a good 10,000 on the rears and plenty of confidence in the wet.

Tourance for mileage ... BUT!!!!
I PUT 20,000 Kms, almost all hiway, lots of two up riding,
on a set of Tourance tires on my 1150 GS, BUT, every time I hit any mud, the Tourances slipped BADLY!!! SO BADLY that once I couldn't even get the GS off of a WET lawn, without digging big horrible rutts through the grass. OOPS!! My local BMW shop is recommending Heidenau Dual sport tires for the GS type machines, for decent mileage and much improved dirt, gravel/mud riding. YPMMV LAZ 1 [;{) |
Depends what you mean by best...? Best road grip? Best life? Best grip off road? Best in the wet? ....one man's best is another's irrelevant. The Tourance is a good all round road tyre bit it's rubbish off road except on dry hard packed surfaces. It's useless on wet grass, mud, soft surfaces etc I like the TKC80's on and off road although they need some respect in the wet on road and their overall life is shorter than the tourance but I know I can go anywhere on them - motorway or off road in the mud or sand or whatever..... so you need to think what you are going do on the bike before accepting what is best. :scooter:

Heidenau
I've never gotten 10k on a tourance rear but I've gotten 11k on a heidenau

Heidenaus last a long, long time. Much better in the dirt than Tourance, but noisier on the highway.

I would agree, Tourance Exp

hello
i just did 22000 km / 13500 miles with heidenau K60 on a 1150gs from Morocco to Turkey with the same set of tyres, 8000km+ off road, mostly gravel rear was "square" but could keep traction front could go on a few thousands more always very loaded but seldom more than 110km/h / 70 miles/h and cool acceleration |

Has anyone tried anakee 2's on an 1150 GSA? I've really liked them on my vstroms but not sure if they're a good choice for the 1150 Adventure. Thoughts?

I used Tourance for 13 years but changed to K60's a couple of years ago. I find them just as good in the wet on the road (I'm not Barry Sheene :mchappy:) and great for the kind of off road I do (rocky trails - but not often).
I used to get nearly 10,000 out of the Tourance but got 12,000 on rear K60 and currently have 15,000 on front with some wear left. I run them at 36 rear and 32 front - regardless of luggage or touraine. P.S they look great too :thumbup1: |
I get better mileage out of Anakees than Tourance, but both about the same in roadholding. And both suck in mud.
Have heard some good things about K60's, but then also heard some bad things. Still planning to give them a go. |
