BMW F650 Dakar tools for the road
Hi guys,
I'm in the process of getting ready for a trip on my (new to me) 650 Dakar and I need info and advise as to what tools i'll need for running repairs on the road. I'm not preparing this bike myself, so if someone out there has experience of living with this bike and can be kind enough to point the bare necessities out to me with regards to socket/allen key/torx sizes, that would be massively appreciated. I will essentially be expanding on this: adventure spec tools motion protrail tool and adding bits that will be needed. Now obviously i'm not looking to be able to do a major engine overhaul, just enough to do the usual trail repairs like getting the wheels off for punctures and being able to strip the bike down for fault finding etc. Rain the knowledge on me! |
Never needed more than the Factory tool kit and I've covered over 30k miles on my 650. I've replaced the clutch, water pump, done a full service and replaced the tyres using only what was supplied in the BMW kit + a motion pro tyre lever set and an 8mm hex key (I think) for the front axle.
BMW knew what they were doing back then! Biggest tip: Lose the Dakar Screen and get a standard BMW touring screen. The amount of wind noise from that screen design is awful!!! HTH Rich |
Flat tire fixing kit is essential: Motion Pro bead breaker, 2 or 3 tire irons (motion pro is a good shaped tire iron), pump (electric is my preference) and the experience installing tube tires.
