bmw f650 gs dakar (2000)
 

I am thinking of buying the above bike and would like to know if anyone out has an opinion. 8500 miles, FSH. It has the white colour scheme. Is this an identical bike to a 2001 blue colour scheme? If not - what are the differences? I did check with the chain gang website, but couldn't find the answer.

I didn't think the "Dakar" model of the F650 was introduced until 2001. Perhaps that is part of the confusion?

I have that same model bike, 2000 F650 GS Dakar (first fuel injected model after the Funduro), but I think its normally considered to be an 01 model. The blue ones started (in Australia) late 01 and is considered to be an 02 model if that makes sense - not sure if works the same other places.

My bike was bought secondhand with 9000km and now has 23,000km. No major problems, just normal maintenance items, although servicing costs from BMW are expensive, more than the twins for a lot of stuff. The Chaingang website is an amazing resource of info for the bike.

My Dakar has been fantastic for one-up travel and commuting. Its soooo comfortable and mine has been 100% reliable. Very versatile too, it will cruise at 120kph all day and still get better than 25km/L, gravel roads and tracks no problem (but its not a dirt bike).

I did hear of a aussie female HU member that had a fuel pump failure in Iran with same model bike a year or so ago. Surging and stalling problems were reported by some owners of the first few model years using FI, check for this. The first few year models since 2000 FI model were mostly unchanged apart from colour, although they did move the regulator to the front frame under the bashplate and the rear shock reservoir to the right-side frame - both due to heat issues I think.

Great bike, I'd take mine anywhere but I am about to sell it because for longer distance two-up with luggage it is a bit short on room and power. I will miss her though.
