BMW F800 GS 2013 key fob

I lost my key fob - mostly it works turning on the security system. How would I go about getting this replaced?

Thanks.

I'm in Ottawa.

See your BMW dealer?

Generally they will want proof of ownership, registration papers, proof of who YOU are etc, and then they just order from the local BMW distributor. Not a big deal - but order two while you're at it - lose one in the middle of nowhere and that's a BIG problem!

Thank you for the replies. If this costs too much, I'll dump the BMW security system and install a newer one. The BMW dealer in my city sucks and I'll not go there. What I may try is contacting the BMW dealer in a bigger city not too far away, and maybe with a copy of the registration they'll help.

This has to be done by a dealer.

They generally won't need proof of anything. They'll just your bike and key.

Or try a good independent with the correct Texa diagnostic setup.

Got Key FOB - now what

I got the new key FOB. Does anyone know how to initialize the new FOB with my bike? Its not in the little manual included with the bike. Nor can I find anything in the Haynes manual. Nor online.

Thanks.

I think Ted had the correct answer. It has to be done using the correct computer.

I hope not. Shop rates are stupid. I have a GS-911 and it may let me do this. The BMW folks told me it could be done without their computer, that if I had trouble, then they can do it.

Going to the GS-911 forum to find out.

Thank you.

It's actually a very quick process at a dealership. If they charge you more than 20-30 mins, then you're being screwed over.

You shouldn't pay for the tech to read the manual if it takes longer.

30 minutes quoted at $80 plus tax. A fine person on the F800gs forum posted a link to the manual pages that tell how to do this. Not working, but according to others its a flakey process and to keep trying.

Thanks.
