collector box vs Y - piece ?
 

( rust) Collector box on my R80 Basic is just about shot and needs replacing. I have heard that the replacement Y piece lasts longer but the carbs are more difficult/need more frequent balancing than the box. anyone got any opinions on this ? Thanks

I haven't noted any particular carb balance problems on my R80GS paralever with a Y piece fitted. There's a bit more noise than with a standard collector box and unless it lines up perfectly (mine doesn't), you could eat gaskets regularly.

It wouldn't run at all with a K&N air filter though, standard only, so maybe there are some subtle carb effects.

tried a bike with y piece and mine runs better with collector box and k&n riden a gs with y piece perfered mime then had mine twin plugged and gas flowed and was advised aganist fitting it by jim cray
