Crank Seal depth
I am replacing the rear crank seal on my 1984 R80G/S.
I have a tool for installing the seal which is in 2 parts,so I need some advice please. The part numbers of the tools are,the main seal mandrel is 111882,but there is a spacer which fits over the mandrel,part No 111881,which places the seal further into the rear crank case. What I need to know is, do I need to use the spacer or not for my bike to attain the correct depth. I did place this on the ukgser site,but that lot obviously never get their hands dirty or don't know how to strip a bike. |

Your toolnumber seems a bit odd to me, I have listed 11.1.890 and 11.1.880.
I've never used the BMW-tool so I'm not sure how it looks but the depth should be 14.5mm to avoid contact with the flywheel mounting ring. It's smart to put the seal in oil for a few hours before you fit it. Make sure that the trustwashers on the crank (esp the front one) don't move. |
