Dakar throttle cable issues
 

I just took off on a trip down through central america and have been having a reoccurring problem with what I believe is caused by the throttle cable. When I turn my bars to full lock one direction or another my rpms rise on their own. Also what bothers me more is that when I am slowing down in first or second gear my throttle keeps to around 2000rpms until I am completely stopped then it goes down to the correct 1500. It has almost got me in trouble a few times because when I am shifting down to slow down my engine is not really slowing down. Any tips for me?

my 650 started this after adding bar risers. Have you done any work on the front end?
You just need to cut a few zip ties to loosen up the cable or adjust the cable slack at the twist grip.

Idle issues happened to me when I did the YZ fork swap. Not sure if this is the issue but I had similar symptoms when I did the YZ fork swap and ended up with the bars raised from their original position. Idle was at about 2000 unexpectedly.

I found that I just needed to reset the idle for the computer. Procedure was as follows (if I remember correctly):

Turn bike on (don't start)
Turn throttle to full open back to closed three times
Start bike

Sounds like your cables are too tight or routed in a way which twists them or bends them at a steep angle.

Try losening off the throttle RETURN cable first. This is a safety cable only and causes a few issues. It can be "quite" lose with no real danger. Next, set your throttle "pull" cable when the bars are at full lock with the correct free play.

Check it by moving your bars left to right before putting your tools away.

If the cables are still sticking, lubricate them with WD40 for a quick fix.
