GS 1200 Adventure windshield
This may be a dumb question but... I have just bought a new GS Adventure (delivery May 04 - ticking the days off!!) but I'm not sure if I should make a change in the windshield department before the magic date arrives. I stand six foot and I ordered the stock windshield. I've never ridden behind an extra tall windshield and don't know if I've made a boo-boo. I do a ton-O-miles every year and I don't relish the thought of having to go for an aftermarket shield when a simple order change may be the way to go. So if there are any six footers out there that would like to wade into it with some knowledge please yell because I sure would appreciate some input.
Thanks! |
GSA windshield
Stu,
I have an 06 GS Adv 1200, and am 6'4", ride 2-up, seat in the high position. I put a Laminar Lip(.com) on mine and for the first time in 40 years ride a motorcycle with no buffeting or disturbed air. I have not heard of a higher shield from BMW for the bike. I actually have lifted my face shield and felt no air on my face. My wife feels the same. If I need air, then I lower the shield in its notches. I actually think the 'Lip' is a better solution than a bigger shield as it funnels and tosses the air up and over. It actually goes about 3" above my head. For only $70 or $80 USD it is worth it. Allen. |

There's also a solution called "Tobinators" which allow for multi positioning adjustment of the GS 1100,1150 and 1200 screens. Tobinator - BMW R1100GS, R1150GS, R1200GS and Adventure Buffeting Eliminator I don't use them myself and I am 6'3" as I opted for an MRA Vario screen on my 1100GS but I know a few folks who get on very well with this gadget and it is well machined and looks the part.

GS extra high windshield
Thanks folks. I think I'll give the stock one a go and if I need to make a change it sounds like there's ton-0-stuff out there to fix it. Again, your replies are much appreciated.
