High altitude tuning
As we're now heading for South America and the dizzy heights of the altiplana and above, its time to think about high altitude tuning.
Anyone with experience of R100 GS/PD with the larger of the CV carbs (42mm is it?) at 3000-5000m? What jets etc. |

There is an article on high altitude stuff. The carbs are 40mm. First: pilot jet = first one-quarter throttle opening needle = 1/4 to 3/4 main - 3/4 to full (Approximately and for the purpose here!) Generally what you want to do is drop the needles one notch first, then if needed one size down on the mains, and one size down on the pilots only if needed and if you are able to tune the pilot jet screws ok yourself, otherwise don't mess with it. ------------------ Grant Johnson Seek, and ye shall find. ------------------------ One world, Two wheels. www.HorizonsUnlimited.com |

i used 135 jets for most riding (sea level to 2000 m) and 118 jets for anything above 2500 or 3000m. i twiddled with the various adjustments until my r100gs ran well and the idle was +/-1000rpm. without wanting to state the obvious, make sure both carbs are adjust equally. cheers ChrisB |
