K&N air filter for a BMW Dakar
For a Sahara travel, I am looking for foam filter (or something washable) that fixes a BMW f650 GS Dakar 2006. I have tried with unifilter, but they don’t have the specific product.
Do you recommend the K&N filter? Thanks in advance for your answers. Iván |
K&N is not a smart option if you are to ride in dusty and sandy areas... use original paper filters in such areas. I would strongly advice against using K%N in sandy areas.
I use K&N on my street-bikes. I ride over 99% of the time on asphalt, freeways, main roads city and suburbs. No sand and very little dust. If you want washable foam filter - drop Dalhems a line. They retail at least two major suppliers - and can help you "build" a fitting filter. |
Air filter
Ivan
Look at Wunderlich America, they have a blue oil type filter listed on their site for your Dakar. I ride a 650GS. After riding in Guatemala for a few weeks last year I started to research different air filters because of the dusty road conditions. Will be riding Mexico and CA again Este Febrero no he manejado en La Ciudad de Mexico, porque pienso que es mas grande que otras ciudades! Altough Guate. is an expereince! Cal |
IMHO the best filter is the Unifilter (by Uniflow). It's Australian made for Australian conditions which is about as dusty as it gets. Yamaha made them OEM on their Aussie Tenere's.
Their oil is one of the best as well. Very thick and easy to transport. I carry a bit in a nalgene bottle and lasted me the whole trip (17000km). You can clean it with turpentine which is available everywhere at paint shops usually. |
I agree that the best is unifilter, but they doesn´t make filters for BMW F650 GS. I have asked them.
Thanks a lot for your advice. I have seen the blue filter (Wunderlich) but it seems that is not very good for the dust. Calvin, I live in Mexico City and if you want to ride here, let me know. It is a big city but I can help you. Iván |
I'm confused. Did you click on my link? It's on their website. Or are you saying they stopped making them?
|
Yes
If you check the Unifilter online catalog, is not listed anyone for a BMW F650 GS Dakar. I sent them an e-mail, and Tom Gross told me that the Funduro make it, but after they confirm that it does not. Or which is the one for my Dakar? |
Mate, I think there is a confusion between the company named unifilter and the company named uniflow (trading as unifilter Australia but probably only in Australia).
Click on my link, add to basket, pay for it and wait for it to arrive. It's the same model as for the R80. They're only 40 bucks Australian, which is about 35 bucks US. |
