Low grade fuel chip for R1150GS Adventure
BMW sell an engine management chip which retards the timing to reduce pinking on low octane fuel.
Does anyone have experience of using or needing this on their travels? I am currently debating whether to shell out yet more cash before setting off for Africa. |
Can't comment on whether it's necessary or not but before buying the BMW chip, compare the price with that of an aftermarket chip that has eight settings for different set-ups, one of which may be suitable for low octane fuel.
Check out www.ukgser.com for more info. Steve |
I belýeve ýn OZ ýts to cope wýth 92 octane. In Uzbekýstan the fuel ýs as low as 72 octane. Býke stýll worked but slow and thýrsty.

Thanks Guys
I spoke to a veryy knowledgeable technician at my local BMW dealer last week. He tells me that the twin sparks don't need it and it is not intended for them... |
I have an Adventure (2004 Twin Spark) & was also told that it did not need the chip, although I have not had it confirmed.
