Mechanics in Korea
Hi,
I am currently in South Korea (Gwangju) with a R 100 GS and experiencing some problems. Most important, my White Power rear shock is leaking. Further, I had my carburators cleaned, but nobody (including me and two smaller bike shops) has been able to synchroniye them thereafter, since the local BMW garage only knows recent models. My bike is runnning very badly at the moment. Does anybody happen to know a mechanic anywhere in Korea who knows how to deal with those problems? If not, maybe in Bangkok (my next destination)? Set the Carbs to standard settings then adjust the throttle cables by sight on one side and feel on the other. You should be able to get an even pull on the cables this way, even if you feel like a contortionist while you do it. Its not perfect but you will get very close. Once you have the carbs balanced you can then adjust the idle speed, dont have it too low as you need to keep up oil pressure. Make sure your valve clearances are correct. If the exhaust valve clearance is too tight it can make the bike feel like it has out of balance carburetors, or like its running on one cyclinder. I have already been at BKK Motorbike and they did a really great job. Not only that they sychronized the carburators the first time after 35000 km. They are the only BMW Garage I know, where the mechanics know to deal with the old 2 valve BMWs. That expressively includes all the BMW Garages in Europe I know. That the bike is actually standing at the BMW garage in Phuket (because there the ignition is gone (probably the CDI) is a seperate issue... Thanks for your help! Lars |
