Vincent,
To clarify: ANY heavy weight, whether on a rack OR on the seat, can cause the rear frame to break. BUT so long as you do not exceed the weight of a passenger you are probably ok. The BMW racks are about 1mm thick tubing if I remember right from the broken ones I've seen. So nowhere near as strong as the Touratech. I would suggest taking the bike to a good welder and getting the rear frame strengthened, or go to Touratech or Wudo or HPN and see what they suggest - they aren't that far from you! ------------------ Grant Johnson Share the Dream! at: www.HorizonsUnlimited.com |
yes,
i'm going to go to a welder look some pictures for examples, like what you did on your bike before and show him thanks grant |
I'll be posting some better pictures of my subframe in a few days.

Sorry, Grant. I don´t agree on the "weakness" of the stock rear frame on a R100 GS.
I´m well informed about damages on our beemers. None of us on 2-ventiler.de knows of any issues, even heavy loaded or 2 up. My bike did well since 1989 on many rides, and never had any issues with the rear frame. Did you experience damage on the rear frame of a R80 or 100 GS ? Or do you just think it´s weak?? |
