Pilot jet o-ring damaged.
Okay, so i'm now in Mexico continuing my adventure south. As some of you may know i left my bike here for one year. Well, i prepped the bike and am now on the road. It runs like crap! I need to adjust the carbs, the left side is very rich so today i went to work. I followed the advice from a few well known Guru's and proceded to check everything else before messing with my adjustment. Here's where things get a little sticky: i removed the float-bowl covers and removed the main jets...they were full of crap. Okay, well i better check the pilot jets as well. I removed one and the o-ring looks rough, but still intact. I removed the other and the o-ring fell out in pieces! F**K!! Now, in Mexico i know how hard it is to find parts, but maybe an o-ring would be simple enough?? First of all, how do you say "o-ring" in Espanol? Maybe i can find an automotive shop that has something that will work. In the meantime, i must continue. I wrapped the o-ring groove with some teflon string used for pipe sealant, i happened to bring some with me to help solve a stubborn oil-leak. My question is what will happen to the jet if i have no seal at all? I think more gas will flow, but can i adjust this with the pilot screw? I'm expecting the bike to run really S**tty until i solve this dilema, but maybe there's an easy way around it that i'm missing. a complete set of o-rings would be really helpful (2 main, 2 pilot jets) Any ideas? I'll be in Belize in a few days, then off to Guatemala. Any sugestions will,as always, be greatly apreciated :)
...oops, almost forgot. "89R100GS/PD |
o-ring = empaque ( in spanish)
When you ask for an o-ring in spanish you can say the same word in spanish: o-ring .
Also you can ask for " empaque " wich is a common word for describe all kinds of rubber gaskets. Some especialized hardware stores ( " ferreteria " in spanish) have assorted o-rings ( sometimes). Good luck. |
Muchas gracias amigo! My quick fix with teflon string seems to work fine, i'll go with this for now.
