Speedo not working after tire change

In the middle of a really long trip and need help. Just changed the front tire. Now the speedometer is not working and I have the ABS and a caution triangle with a circle with an arrow around it flashing. What did I do?

Help!!!!!

I'm not familiar with that bike specifically, but I'd suspect something awry with the front speed sensor - on many bikes it's mounted with the front caliper and has a small electrical cable attached, it goes next to a second front disk that's covered in slats and has to be quite close (some only sit on the side, others have to go around it on both sides.

It would be easy to knock the sensor while remounting the wheel, and if it's broken would cause all the errors you're seeing.

Edit: if it's broken you can still ride the bike just fine, if you have a GPS use that for speed and ride in a manner where you don't need ABS to kick in (I don't know, I've never had a bike with ABS)

You've either done something to the ABS sensor or mounted the wheel backwards, with the ABS ring on the wrong side. With twin disc bikes it's easier to do than you might think ;)

I checked to see if I had put the tire on backwards yesterday. Its on right. The sensor side has the disk with all the grooves in it.

Thanks

In that case your problem most likely lies in the phonic sensor itself, which is used for both ABS and speedo functions. Check the connection is OK and that the wire or sensor aren't damaged.

I would say this is 90% speed sensor damage or misalignment.

It's an easy thing to damage when struggling to refit a wheel.

Ideally, you remove them first... But their location generally means they're seized in. Or the bolt is !

The sensor has to be fairly close to the ring. Spin the wheel and check it's clearance. 2-3mm is normal.

There's more

The ABS is one thing. But there is other weirdness. The outside temperature indicator works, but only once when you turn the bike on. Then it freezes. Same for bike temperature. Clock and gas levels work.

There are two things I'm trying today. Disconnect the battery and do a hard reboot. Second is to reset all the faults using the GS911.

Its looking more like an ECU problem to me than anything...

Also, unrelated to the ECU. my shift lever broke. Repaired with steel pull ties.

What bike do you have ? And what year ?
