what cruising speed can a 650gs achieve without falling appa
 

Hi, I have a BMW650GS. I am quite new to biking, and Im mostly used to cars. I am having a difficult time deciding what revs are safe on a bike.I like to cruise at around 90mph for 2 to 3 hours at a time on the GS. However the revs reach ulmost up to 6000, which in a car would be terrible. Can the GS do such cruising speeds, or am I slowly killing it? Also any thing out there, to increase the top speed of the GS?

Depends on the road, more than 50mph on corrugated gravel & your teeth fall out ;-)

I dont usually take mine over 70mph, its a comfy speed and its not like I'm in a hurry.

Like Happy Hacker, I rarely do more than 70mph on my Dakar. If you seriously want to cruise at 90 I would recommend that you consider a bigger bike. Is it possible to change the gearing? I will leave that to the more technically minded. Also at 90 I would imagine that you are using a lot of fuel for very little gain. Back roading around the Baltic this year my average cruising speed was probably no higher than 60mph and that was returning about 70 to the gallon (16miles per litre/25km per litre).

Why the rush?

I had an F650FL (old type). I could easily cruise at 85mph for long motorway stretches, including crossing France in a day. At that speed the vibrations seem to soften out. It would do a constant 55mpg.
