Wiring in a GPS Power Dupply - F650 Funduro
 

hiya folks

i hope you can help - I've got a Touratech GPS mount that supplies power to my unit and I was wondering where it was best to hard wire the supply to on the bike?

Do i go for a permanent feed? or an ignition switched feed?

If so - in either case where do they actually exist on the bike that are easy to get to?

NB: it's a 1995 BMW F650 Funduro.....

I wired my Garmin GPS staight to the Battery using the car mount it came with & a home made bike mount . Just added a in line fuse to be on the safe side.

We decided against hardwiring and put a 12V plug, ignition switched, on the bike instead. We then took a 12v fastcharger and it does 4 AAs (4-6 days hard use) at a time in superquick time and we dont have to leave the GPS for the african children to play with everytime we leave the bikes!:thumbup1:

thought about both of those options but I figure there must be a sensible place that has an easy to access ignotion switched wire that is PRE-FUSE so I can tap into it and put the connection and in-line fuse in so that it isn't piggy backing of another fuse...

Suggestions?

Why? - do they draw much current?

Hi,

I think most are around 5V as that's USB voltage, if you have a FUSED car lighter socket on the bike then use that that what I have, then get a USB converter (socket to standard USB) handy for Camera, Phones, GPS etc.

As I rule of thumb I only use the Socket during daytime as I don't want to put extra strain on my Battery, what with running Dual HID lights and Heated Grips at night.

Hard wire to battery, fused of course, and a switch on the dash to isolate it.

Or make up something like a power-plate to run all your odds and sods off
