12v mini microwave - do they exist?
 

Anyone know of a 12v mini microwave that could be used for biking instead of a regular gas stove.

Any one know if it is possible to 'deconstruct' one of these to get to the working element and rehouse that in a much smaller box?

It might be easier to find a mini microwave and use a 12-240v inverter from Maplin, see Discount Inverter products. Buy Inverter products cheap online @ Maplin.

Have you thought how much battery power you will need for one of those?
You will need a bank of batteries and a Sterling or similar charger to keep them topped up. The weight alone would exclude it.
Sorry to p*ss on your bonfire, but this is a no go:thumbup1: especially on a bike.
What's wrong with gas,petrol etc. :confused1:

Or toput it another way, even alittle one would have an output of at least 600 watts. Meaning an input of 1000 watts... so your 12volt batterry would have to supply 83+ amps.. now add in an inverter to get from 12v to 240volts and it is likly to consume over 100 amps from your battery. In practice that would mean less than 6 minutes from full charge to completely flat.. but at those currents you would destroy your battery as it boiled dry or exploded.

you can not rebuild it into a smaller housing, because it needs a specific size to make the "beam" reflect back throe the center so it will resonate there.

Yep well it seems it is a no goer then. Shame. (Just wonder how much energy I can create by pedalling a dynmo - I guess not 1000watts though!)

About 300 watts ... if you're fit and that would be over some time .. like an hour.

As for teh power required by the smallest microwave .. 600watts is the magnetron rating .. the power supply is faily effecient .. so say 700 watts .. cooking time of say 15 minutes .. at 12 volts = ... 700w /12v = 60 odd amps / 4 to get hours = 25 Ah .. So you'd need a 25 Amphere hour 12 V deep discharge battery to power your 600 watt microwave for 15 minutes .. and then it would be dead flat.

Wrap your food in aluminium foil ,put it on the exhaust manifold and drive until well done .
No energy wasted ,no extra weight, no extra cost --- , two jobs done for the price of one .

Im with Dodger on this one again! wrap Pastie or Pie in double or triple foil, place against exhaust ( i use two lengths of copper wire, wrapped round exhaust then twisted into a 'hook' at each end to hold the package) ride for about 20 mins and the food will be "piping" hot....:rolleyes2:
Honest, it works! have also cooked fish, meat and a potato this way. (the spud took about an hour per side, thick stuff you have to turn)

Im told that with a car ( am I allowed to say car on here?) it is possible to cook a full dinner, depending on engine type and available space for packages of food.( V8's win apparently)
