50L Backpacks
Anyone recommend a 50L backpack?
I want to do some trekking as well but seems to be a gap in available sizes (either 40-45L Children's packs or the usual very large/tall 60+L Adult packs). Ideally looking for a short, squat ~50L pack that has a web/strap system so I can crush the volume down and strap it on backwards in place of my top-box (obviously don't want to overload 50L too high up!). Something along the lines of a US Army ALICE-pack - any thoughts? Alex |
I have a Macpac 'Java' which I think is around that size. It's a very good pack for my purposes, and it zips up into a travel pack for flying and when you don't want to look so much like a backpacker etc
See www.macpac.co.nz - they have stockists around the world or will ship to you. Mine cost about 80 UK pounds. |
I would support the idea to go for a Macpack. I have been using a big one for about 10 years know. It's been used very intensly (mounteneering, back country trekking,...). It s still in good shape, only needed one repair...
They might be a bit more expensive, but they are worth it! Another brand that I would recommend is DANA. But they are quite hard to find outside the USA. |
if you want big & tuff this is one that may be the match for youwww.chromebags.com/backbone.html.a nother idea is timbuk2,messenger bags.I have one & there not hiking bags but they hold a lot of stuff & hurt the back a lot less then big rucsacks or overloader daypacks.
