Belstaff RIP OFF.
Whilst looking for the Manchester Belstaff web details this popped up; belstaffjackets.co.uk
The full range at massive discounts. It looked too good to be true so I contacted Belstaff, sure enough, it's too good to be true. Nothing to do with Belstaff.com. They advised me not to use the site and have a warning on their own official web-site after lots of complaints. Merry Christmas to all HU-ers. |
thanks for the heads up.
ironically i wont buy belstaff stuff because their prices are virtually a rip-off!! |

Try E-bay. The ones at £45 work but are made to the price. My £99 one (made in Egypt) is my favourite bike jacket by miles. The ex-belstaff manufacturing people also have a website (google wax touring jacket etc.). Made to measure at the £150 mark, but don't expect fast service (my quote was four months and that after it took a month to get a reply). I know a few guys who have these and also love them.
Belstaff is now a fashion label pure and simple. The price reflects the cost of running city centre stores and the fact that footballers, soap stars and other fashion victims combine the retailers favourite atributes; cash and stupidity. Some one is bound to relate how their Belstaff used to leak and they had to pay four and six for a hansome cab to get home. This is because Nikwax wasn't invented until after the Napoleonic wars and boiled up chimney sweep simply isn't effective (and leaves stains on the bulter). If you do intend to ride in wax cotton, treat it like your tent. Andy |
i have a barbour trail master jacket looks cool is retro but wouldnt want to fall off in it :scooter:

I saw wax cotton jacket at the NEC with body armour fitted, I cannot remember the name but might try one next, my overpriced Barbour might not be totally waterproof, but has already lasted longer than the two previous cordura jackets put together and when they started to leak they were unusable and there was nothing to do with them but throw them out.

I found this and it seemed to match the description and look rather good too. Wax cotton Tourmaster motorcycle jacket, english made on eBay (end time 01-Feb-11 10:45:53 GMT) |
belstaff
I must admit i have been fancying a trialmaster jacket, however i'll stick with my 22yo barbour especially after seeing a piece on the BBC news about Egypt where the reporter was wearing one.
then tonight on top gear Jonathan Ross turned up in a belstaff and after the interview it cut away to James May who was also wearing a belstaff. I still like the design but the now obvious fashion statement and associated price puts me well off regards all Gren |

I've just received the Claymore jacket and I'm rather impressed. Well made, measurements all bang on and I was proper dry when I rode up to London in the rain today!

Tima,
I was also looking at the Claymore jacket. A few questions if you don't mind: 1. How long did it take to make? 2. What is the construction quality like (ie quality of stitching / buttons etc)? 3. Did you get the version with armour and / or quilting - if so, what is it like? |
Like my delightfully named co-purchaser, bellend, I too have been very impressed with the quality. I had a stack of extra measurements that i provided, including some rather diddly wrist and palm measurements. I have skinny wrists and my biggest complaint about most jackets is the loose fitting on the cuff. A longer neck meant i asked for a slightly deeper collar, and i had a nice large pocket fitted on the seat.
I'm a part timer at a fashion college and have a vague idea about decent garment construction, and this has it. The stitching is, as already stated, very good, the diamond stitch is nice and looks very neat. Sizing is bang on, close but sufficient space for me to get my heated vest on underneath it, over a shirt, tie and jumper. The point made about armour is important, the pockets are made to fit Knox equipment and are perfect. Fixings and zips are high quality, waterproofing is good and i was told the brown comes with more wax on it than the black, just due to the supplier. All it needs is about 20 years of use and a couple of reptiles and it will be perfect. ;) It was about 260 with armour and my specific pockets. It is an excellent piece of kit and I'm very happy, especially since it was made to measure in the UK. Very definitely recommended. |
