Those armored riding shorts are great for protection, but not sure if they help much with long distance comfort. I wore them ALWAYS when riding my dirt bike on serious single track, going fast. The good ones have decent foam that protects hips, tail bone, thighs. I sweat in them a lot but like the bit of protection they offer. Some of the newer ones (as you've listed) are really good. I have older Fox and some others, just so so and they wear out.

But for traveling I won't take them as I'm not riding serious off road all that much and when off road I take it easy ... so I'm willing to take that chance. I just did a short 4 day ride into our Sierra, crossing the passes. We rode 200 to 300 miles per day. My butt got sore but I do think my bicycle riding shorts did help a bit. No Monkey Butt even in 97F heat. YMMV.

I wear a pair of dainese armored underwear when I ride (crash??) my dirtbike. They do nothing for comfort but are very nice when bouncing down a trail after your bike. As a long ride piece of gear I wouldn't use them.

This is an old resurrected thread but it seems the OP was not alone in his torment :pinch: ; in the meantime someone has launched a range of specialist padded underwear:

If anyone has tried them I'd be interested to know what they thought and whether they were worth it?
