carrying the coleman stove
when you carry the coleman multifuel stove (in your panniers for example) do you have to empty it first?

No.
I don't even depresureise it. I suppose if you go up and down in altitude a lot it might be a problem .. but otherwise - no ! ----- Unless you are flying it! then you have to drain it (easiest to let it burn off all the fuel .. you get some traped in the tubing otherwise), then let it air for 6 hours minimum, wrap it in some absorbent material (paper), put it in a plastic bag and seal it. If you don't air it for 6+ hours then they offer mixing the fuel wiht some low flash point fluid (cooking oil), drain etc ... |
I store mine in the "Kitchen" (tank bag) in the vertical position. Never had it leak or any other problems.
How do others fill their Coleman?? I use a large syringe with a clear extension hose to get down into the tank. Glen |
I use one of these
Blackhawk Omega Elite Gas Mask Pouch, Black, Military Surplus, Blackhawk at Sportsman's Guide It keeps the stove safe, I then use a small bowl to go over the top of it to protect that, underneath the stove I use a small frying pan to protect the botto, and it also stores my KFS salt pepper and HOT SAUSE. Then I either hang it from my fairing crashbars or keep it in my panniers, by storing it in the Gas mask pouch it keeps the rest of my stuff clean, and packs up small. See easy |

I think the advice about storing it in it's own container is a good one. Remember that the gas cannister is like a BOMB if it goes off! I once saw the top of a bungalow literally blown off by ONE very small Gaz cannister! :stormy:
