Coleman Rigel X2 Tent
Hi just saw this tent advertised at under £60. Anyone have one any comments about them. It all reads well very light and looks ideal, although i have no experience of single skin tents, this one is less than 1kg so makes more sense than taking 2 bivi bags. I am not fused about cooking outside so the lack of a porch doesnt matter.
Any feedback very apprciated:eek3: |
Hi Stu,
I have a Coleman X "something or other" - it is a double skin and a bit heavier than your proposed purchase; capable of accommodating two in there, but I prefer the extra space for just me! I have used it as a 2/3 season tent and the quality of the materials has been fine, although I am not "rough" on material things in general, hoping that they will return the favour! No zips have broken, no rips or whatever, and quick enough to put up and take down + I can get the whole thing into a tank bag if I want. I would not want to use this particular design in high winds however - the flysheet is quite high at the edges, especially compared with many other designs and it is shaped very much like a kite overall; it could easily "fly" and then the tent would just be a single skin with a lot of mosquito netting exposed! |
Dave , cheers for that responce, if the quality is good the price is even better so I will get one and try it out.

What is this tent like for overnight condensation?
I am looking for a 2-3 man tent that will stay dry. |

The price looks good as well:- Amazon.co.uk: Coleman Rigel X2 Backpacking Tent: Sports & Leisure I didn't know that Amazon even sell camping kit! (and you could be their first reviewer for this tent!! :rolleyes2:) Is there a sale on somewhere? |
Walkabout, cant remember the exact site but i googled best uk new price and it was £58 in a sale.
I too am very keen to know about condensation on this tent as my works intranet will not let me on review sites, at least I can post on here though. |
single skin tents are normally horrible. End up pretty damp.

Sorry, I thought you were asking about the one man tent, but maybe not as Stu hasn't bought it (yet)! Anyway, mine is fine from that point of view and I don't think it is any different in this regard from any other 2 skin tent that has an inner that includes mosquito netting - that provides plenty of ventilation for 2/3 seasons use. I suppose it could get an issue in colder conditions but I don't do that!! |
I read a good review by TGO, all about single skin tents they do seem to suffer from condensation which has put me off a bit. Maybe they should be viewed more as a luxury bivi bag. Around 1 kg and a small pack size is still tempting me though pitty the coleman is in bright green.
I was up in the hills in derbyshire the other day in a Kyam and it faired well considering the weather. |
