Hammock

I was wondering if any body has strung one end of a hammock off of the rear end of a center stand bike. I'm thinking about replacing a tent with a http://www.hennessyhammock.com/

What do you guys/gals think?

I have a hennessy hammock and love it in warm weather. Cold weather you need something under you to insulate you since the sleeping bag gets compressed and does not. As for using your bike a one end it is do able, but I would put a couple of tent stakes out and tie down the bike first. You would be better off just finding two trees.

Wow! They look brilliant!

Only downside opposed to a tent is there is no place to keep your gear dry or to cook in if it is pelting down with rain...

Depending on circumstances I carry a lightwieght tarp so I can set up under it for cooking etc.

For a hammock to work you have to string it quite tightly. I would think it would pull the bike over. It might work if you hooked into the luggage rack and pulled straight back. I would also stake the bike down as suggested earlier.

Hey There
Having slapt in a hammock for the best part of a Year in Central America, they are great,
Easily the coolest place to sleep when its hot - much cooler than a ground tent.
I think it will be difficult to rig it off a bike securely, they put a lot of load on the main lines.
Depends where you are going, Cental/South America fine, anywhere else use a tent - or if you've got the room take both - the Hammock packs quite small.
Cheers

I'm carrying a Hennessy Hammock in my saddlebag. Small, lightweight, relatively easy to set up, and very nice in bad weather.

Of course, in some places finding trees can be difficult. In one such case I set it up as a non-hanging "tent" with my bike:

I think the main disadvantage is that it is only for one person. But if you're travelling alone, that's fine.

the hennessy is brilliant i have been using mine for the last three months if you get the hex fly it will keep all your gear and even your bike dry and you can cook under it as well and it will still fit in the snakeskins so light and compact if your freecamping in the forest you will NEVER go back to a mere tent

I always camp using my Hennessy Hammock.

If I don't find two convenient trees or anything to hang the hammock to, I use my motorcyle with no problem as an anchor on one side. All I need is an A-frame...Here is what I do:

For the cold I use this self inflating mattress, it works very well and insulate s the inside of the hammock:
