MSR Hubba and Hubba Bubba Tents
 

Anyone any experience of these? What's the verdict? I'm particularly interested in the length of the poles when collapsed, so I know if they'll fit in my panniers. I'd rather not store them outside of my panniers.

Ian, my girlfriends just bought a used 2005 Hubba Hubba + Footprint (it arrives next week)in Canada, we will be using it for some backcountry hiking at altitude in a few weeks time - over in Canada, - I will let you know what real size and pack weight it all is, when it arrives, and if its any good afterwards!!! though it looks like there is plenty of room in it with the perpendicular roof pole - something that you dont get with most 2 pole domes.

I too am looking at these. The packed length was over 300 mm but should fit in the pannier (was not 500mm).

I did not like the price here ... and the quality of the fly material looked poor for the price. I liked the design, the free standing and the weight.

May import, could be cheaper?

Cheapest I found was Mountain Equipment Co-Op in Canada. You buy a share to become a member $5 CAD for life. They do good quality gear and you dont pay for the label as well as carrying some other good brands.

Though I got the footprint from MEC, I found a lightly used 2005 (twin door) Hubba Hubba on Ebay in the USA,
- might be worth a look, there are new ones for sale too at reasonable prices - including shipping anywhere -depends how the Aussie dollar is doing against the USD

Don't know the situation in Australia, but here in the UK you can get a nasty surprise when buying stuff mail order from the US - the postman demands you pay the tax before he'll give you the parcel. Not sure if it's import tax or VAT or both.

Be interested to know how this tent performs and what the size is.

I agree - you can get clobbered for the VAT - thats the good thing with getting someone to post you something from a private address - and mark the customs declaration form 'gift' - though you still run the risk of paying VAT - however £209 for the tent in the UK is taking the P**s when you can get one for £150 (ish) across the pond
