Quad/ATV Boots ??
Has anyone used Quad/ATV boots for touring in? They look much like MX boots but seem to be slightly more flexible and easier to walk in and they many of them have a proper Vibram cleated sole.
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com..._ATV_Boots.jpg That's a THOR MX Quadrant ATV boot (as an example), but there's loads about. Pricewise they're usually the same as an MX boot, and as Quadders spend a lot of time messing about in mud they're usually waterproof/breathable etc too. I've yet to buy boots, but I thought I'd consider Quad boots instead and wondered if anyone's got an experience/recommendations. I guess because Quadders are often out in the wilds pushing and shoving and not on an MX track in some ways they might be a bit more like off-road bike tourists, and their boots better suited. |
Been puzzling with the same idea for a while myself. They seem to work out much cheaper than the really comfy looking mx boots, like you say have a useful sole too.
I was out on the Ten today and am fed up with my old axo mx boots they are so stiff they are more trouble than there worth. OK for mx but too stiff for general use.:scooter: |
I have heard good things about Gaerne Ballanced oiled boots.

They look good too, in many ways very similar to ATV boots, although the sole isn't quite as cleated, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. Price is a little more than some, but then price varies anyway, I'm sure I could find ATV boots at that price if I tried.
Nice to know of more alternatives to MX boots though, I've tried many a pair and they're just far too stiff for me, I know if I wear them for a year I'll break them in, but a whole year? No thanks. |

I had thought that trials boots would be good but you might have hit the perfect middle ground with your quad boots (I didn't know there was such a thing until now) |
My axo's are over 10 years old now, I dont think they are ever going to losen up. Maybe the more modern mx boots offer more comfort.:scooter:
