Rev'it Tornado Jacket & Pants
 

Hi,

I'm planning to ride from the Middle East to Australia and looking for jacket & pants that will be cool enough to wear in the Middle East summer, warm enough for the mountains of Pakistan and waterproof for the rains in South East Asia.
The Rev'it Tornado Jacket/Pants combination has been mentioned as a good solution.

Does anybody have any views on the Tornado jacket/pants for the kind of conditions I will be going through or suggestions on other suitable jackets/pants?

I have both of these, and rode wearing them from the UK to the South of France last Summer. Temps. ranged from 12*C in the Alps (a little chilly!) to 32*C . When the weather's warm, they are excellent! I was extremely comfortable, and they are VERY airy. Excellent combo. I also wore my HU T-shirt underneath!

When it rained (not that often, thankfully) or was a little chillier, I took some waterproof trousers and jacket (both a size larger than the Rev'it gear) and wore those. I found this combination to be very useful. Even in England (where it wasn't 32*C, obviously!!!) I was warm enough with this.

The trousers only really fit outside your boot (or are designed to, anyway). Be careful with the sizing; In the end, I went for an XSmall (I'm around 38"chest, 32" waist) and this was snug! The suit is designed to be fairly loose-fitting, but I like slightly closer-fitting clothing. The XS trousers also fitted my waist the best. Having said this, I would probably have been better going for the next size up, to make the whole outfit a little roomier. Also, I found that my jacket wasn't quite long enough and I got a serious tan on the first 10cm on each arm!!!

The 'thermal' lining is also supposed to be water-proof (resistant?), but I couldn't be bothered with the faff of fitting it in when needed - it was hot most of the time, and the outer coat / trouser combo worked well.

I found the lack of pockets on the outside a little frustrating; touring without a largish pocket was not ideal for me. I used a rather attractive (not) bum bag, which worked well.

All in all, a great suit and not that expensive. Well worth a try, just be careful with sizing. If you can try them on first, I'd advise you do so.

I've travelled with the Rev'it Ignition jacket and convert trousers. They are a great combination for riding in Central America and South America. The ignition jacket can be reduced to a mesh jacket that allows air flow for hot weather riding and includes a waterproof zip-in liner for the rainy weather. The jacket also includes a thermal liner for riding in the chilly mountains.
