Sleeping bag with mattress insert where to buy

Hi everyone,

I saw on a HU DVD a sleeping bag that had an opening at the bottom where a sleeping mat could be slipped into and thought :thumbup1: what a good idea as I'm sick of slip sliding all over my existing Thermorests....... plus I need to make the better half happier so an Exped mattress that inserts in and remains in place may be just what I need.:D

I'm based in Aust but had no luck searching through Google.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

The sleeping bag shown on the HU DVD is from Big Agnes. Google that and you will find a number of suppliers. Exped down mats are the best invention since sliced bread ( IMHO), you should be able to source on of those quite easily.

Thanks Pongo for the info

swags and bivvy/bivvi bags. look those things up, they are usually designed as a tent-sleepingbag-mattress thing.
big chunky things to carry, but can be put anywhere very quickly
i've lived out of such things over long periods of time, though there is something to be said for having a proper roof over your head

I have a makpak sleeping bag it has the opening for a sleeping mat, in fact you have to use it with a sleeping mat becasue there is hardly any insulation in the underside of the sleeping bag, howe:scooter:vere it packs down to nearly nothing.

I've had it at least 20 years so not sure if they still make them like this anymore.

If you're anywhere near an REI (there's one in Austin) then you should check out their monthly gear sale. They have huge discounts on a wide variety of returned sleeping bags and sleeping pads. I got a nearly new BigAgnes down sleeping bag with slot for a sleeping pad at a gear sale for $23 and they sell for over $200 new. If you're not interested in the discount then just go to the REI and they'll show you 3 or 4 bags that have a slot for a sleeping pad. Many of the BigAgnes sleeping bags have slots.
However, many of the bags with slots in the bottom have no insulation on the bottom... which I don't like because it makes you significantly colder and means that you basically have to use a sleeping pad to keep the insulated side right side up (not good if you have access to an actual bed)

I've looked at them, and find it a messy solution.

Alpkit in the UK are developing a camping blanket, they offer a great range of sleeping mats and bags too.

I looked at getting a friend to bring me back a thermarest blanket but there no longer seems to be any savings to be made at the lower price scale.
