Sleeping bags for 2 people

I am after some advice to buy a couple of sleeping bags, my wife and I are after a couple of down filled bags that we can possibly join together. I am after summer and winter bags for the seasons. summer have the lighter one on top and winter, the winter bag on top. we both have a bike each but as you would know the lighter the better is needed. We have googled the net and have come up with a ton of bags but they dont really mention they join, any advice from fellow riders would be great.

Quality mummy bags can be had with zippers on opposite sides. That's what you want--one right, one left. However, you need to think your top-bottom scheme through if using mummies, since the foot sections need to be side by side, which means the bags themselves need to be side by side.

Rectangular bags I've never tried. I presume 2 identical bags zip together if the same size and zipper. Why don't you go in person to an actual retail store and check it out for yourselves?

Everyone has had this idea, and lots of folks have followed through on it. I used to have a set of three in varying weights which I could zip together in different combinations to ensure a warm (i.e., happy) girlfriend without always overheating myself. But you might as well know from the start that it seldom works out that you'll both be sleeping inside the same double bag--too crowded, and one or the other usually gets tired of being crushed, kicked, or suffocated. Or maybe that's just me.

We use 2 Kelty bags rated for 35 degrees (maybe 3c?) but we've slept in them below freezing. They are down and pack super small. We also use silk mummy liners. We used to use them seperately but it's worth the effort to zip them together, much warmer. For hotter weather just unzip or sleep on top. Don't know if Kelty is available for you but we've been very happy with them.

Thanks for the couple of responses, I Should have mentioned I live approx 1000km from the nearest city and it's hard to go look and speak to retailers. One of the good reason I am asking people from this forum. I can get a few ideas and then I can make more inquiries on specific brands.

We've given up on sleeping bags and simply use 1/2 duvets depending on the weather and conditions. They are just as easy to pack and you don't get all twisted up when turning over !!!!!!!

I have a pair of Coleman Hudson 450's. They are superb. Make sure you get a pair, i.e. a left and a right one. because you need the Zips on alternate sides in order to have the hoods in the right place when they are combined into a double.

nice to be able to zip together for a cuddle but in reality you will be tight on space and either too hot or too cold.

just get two decent bags with opposing zips then i guess you cover all bases
