Has anyone got any experience of these bags?

On the face of it a seems like a good idea. A collection of bags that you layer up or down to suit the temperature you will be sleeping in.

All kept in one bag (with a pillow) - 3.2kg.


On the subject of pillows, anyone found a GOOD soution?
I thought about one of those "Tempura" pilows and just cut off as much as you need and take that.

The Kyham UK site is useless. You can't buy anything there and they don't seem to have any dealers that supply the whole lot - the link you gave does not have the 300g bag for instance but probably worth a phone call.
Kyham France sells the lot, but more money...

im gonna call ossies tomorrow, i think you wont need the vss600. they tend to suggest that if its gonna be cold the 800+1000+bivi bag is 5 seasons, i dont really wnat to be out in less than -20 anyway. with the extra vss600 you get an extra 2.5degrees. no expwerience wit them but they are the ones im choosoing if there in stock.

I was thinking more when it gets piggin' hot. A thin bag or just the Bivvi bag would be enough. No?

The system seems quite bulky and heavy, although the different web sites don't agree on the total size and weight (http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/ac..._Bags_269.html)

I think you'd be better off with a quality down bag and a liner. Liners, besides their immediate advantage of being easily washable, allow you to regulate more accurately the temperature: you can zip down the bag and still be protected from the streams of air. Also whatever you choose, you should consider buying a sleeping pad (Therm-a-Rest, for instance).

As for the pillow, the best solution I found was a U-shaped inflatable pillow together with a small pillow borrowed from an airplane. The inflatable pillow provides neck and lateral support while the airline pillow gives some cushion. When riding, the airline pillow was used to stuff and protect sensitive gear in the suitcases.

Just got the vss 600 and 800, bivi bag and a silk liner. seems really good and on super special price at ossies. (top tip always ask for 10% minimum. they give this to scouts and guide groups and will always give it to anyone else who asks.) the 600 is very compact and light if your guarenteed hot nights then this will be ok and with the bivi bag to keep u dry. the 600 zips into the 800 and it will roll up and compress in the 800's bag. add these 2 to the bivi bag and its hot.
it is a little heavier than a single down bag but it is giving u several options for keeping warm and the addittion of someone else using one of the bags if needs be!!
looked at the compressable pillows aswell
they are small about 200mmx150mm. they are not that thick either, even when plumped up and at nearly £8 a pop ill give it a miss and will use the old "clothes in the compression sack" method.
