wet clothing and a top box
 

guys,

i sometimes need to leave my bike unattended at airports for a while and need to stash my biker clothes which are sometimes wet in the panniers. thing is when i come back to them a few days later they are of course still damp and musty, does anyone have a solution for this? cheers upfront...

No. but let us know if you come up with something crafty..

When my gear gets a bit old and stinky I wash it by washing it with some sort of soap to get the dirt out, then soaking it in a bathtub with a tube of denture tablets in it. This seems to sterilise it and I've noticed that when it gets wet after this it gives of a slight 'minty fresh' smell - so some of the denture sterilising stuff has stayed with the fabric. I've not tested whether or not this stops it getting musty but it might be worth a try?

Probably not quite for full riding gear but if you have a typical adv T shirt etc that is starting to smell a bit even after washing, stick it in a microwave wet for 20 -30 seconds, this kills all the bacteria which love to come along for the ride.

NOTE, do not put in a garment with metal components as this will end in tears.

How about one of these, if the bike is left under cover you could leave out the bag and just use the mesh, locked to the bike, if not hand it over to left luggage, only one secure package, and there should be enough air circulating to dry your gear whilst you're away.

I've got a couple of Dampire Dry-zone bags. Basically canvas bags of silica gel that I put inside my wet gloves and boots when I'm away. These should absorb the moisture. It would be easy to make some of your own up. I've heard of people putting kitty-litter in pillowcases!!

what about some moister eater? you can buy it on amazon in bags, leave the bag with the damp clothing in the pannier, the moister eater will absorb 10 times its weight in water out of the air, your clothes will be bone dry when you come back!:thumbup1:
