Have bought the Drinksafe system. Very effective and easy to use. Very nice people to do business with as well

We're about to conduct a comprehensive review of water treatment systems, including both filters and purifiers. We'll be evaluating their actual effectiveness at meeting the manufacturers' claims for pathogen removal/destruction, in addition to ease of use, etc.

It should be out in the Fall issue.

Came across these at the recent RGS overland travel workshop; www.lifesaversysytems.com
A minature version of large scale water purification, no chemicals and they now supply the MOD. Its a handy size- like a large cycling drink bottle and very simple to use.
Worth comparing in your mag if you can OJeditor..

We used this one PWP Trekker (or something similar!) works fine and the water tasted OK - used it in puddles, rivers etc and had no probs whatsoever and you just pump from your dodgy water source into your bottle.

I am going via kazakstan,pakistan,india nepal. Do I really need a purifier draging with me?? Any one done the route and survived without a purifier?

I have the "First Need" and am darn glad I do. It's the only EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) approved purifier out there. All the rest are just water filters in which you can still get very Ill from those tiny tiny buggers infesting the worlds water.
You can drink from virtually any water source with confidence. It pumps up a large nalgene bottle in short order. It reverse flushes for cleaning. It's only downfall is that is is wide in comparison to other filters.

My money and health will stay with First Need

I use a Katadyn Vario, 2 liters of water in no time. I ' ve pumped foul Swamp water through it, never even had an upset stomach!
