winter gloves
 

after a bit of feedback on good winter gloves, just purchased a pair of halvarssons winter gloves and i'm not impressed at all, may have to resort to my old knackered frank thomas aqua's till i get some more, glad i haven't put them in the bin yet, any info will be appreciated.

I just got a set of Rain-Off over-gloves:

Rain-Off: Genuine 100% Waterproof Motorcycle Overgloves

Waterproof and windproof. They turn questionable gloves into something that will keep out the wind and rain.

My initial impression is that those combined with my normal Kevlar riding gloves (from Motoport, good down to 55 degrees) and heated grips will probably be sufficient in any weather above Freezing.

I use the Alpinestars Jet winter gloves, they work reasonably well, warmth is good WITH heated grips, waterproofing is good but not 100%

I gave up on winter gloves and overmitts when I got Hippo Hands. The ones I got fit over handlebars even with barkbusters, and they're rugged, waterproof, warm and improve the cool-overland-adventurer factor of your bike many times over.

Previously I had winter gloves, which were not very warm, and overmitts which I bought for a ridiculous sum from Tourtech but which leaked and started yielding to entropic processes almost immediately (i.e., bits started tearing and falling off). Then I tried an off-brand knockoff of the Hippo Hands out of a snowmobiling catalog, but they didn't fit and weren't well made. You get what you pay for, and the Hippo Hands brand is the real thing. Now I use summer gloves, which are quite comfortable compared to big bulky mitts and gloves, year 'round.

I've never had heated grips. Every time I get tempted, I meet someone who raves about his heated grips....which just happen not to be working at the moment due to a bad connector or shorted wiring or some damn thing. So I stick with the passive, non-electric solution.

Outer layer is made of Cordura with thermal lining laminated inside and inner layer is soft shell with thermal lining with Goretex membrane.
They are windproof and almost waterproof just seams aren't taped. On 12h subimmersion tests they are leaking a bit.
With heated grips on low I only use normal short motocross gloves when outside temp was -17C.

Capo Sakke, those look very nice--like Hippo Hands with a finer finish. I wonder about two things--do they fit over handguards and barkbusters? And can you easily remove and reinsert hands while riding? The second question is because this is my only discomfort with my current setup--it's not quite as easy to grab the controls in a hurry once I've removed one or the other hand, which I do frequently for one reason or another. Yours look like it's a long reach down a narrow tunnel, which might be worse in this respect.
