Bike rental in Mexico?
Hi there:
Looking to go to Mexico in March and I have a week I can spend riding while there. Are there any reputable outfits that rent bikes? Preference is for a dual purpose machine but I'll take whatever I can get that's reliable. Thanks in advance. |
The basic answers is no. Are you going to be in Mexico City. If so try contacting BMW MOtohaus. servicio@motohaus. com.mx they told me they want to rent bikes but I'm not sure if they have fixed it up yet.

Correction - yes there is a very good one - he was at our HU Mexico Travellers Meeting, received excellent reviews - I even rode one of his bikes for a day. Garry, you may have missed him - Oscar Calderon - he's a very good guy, small operation. Rent's F650GS's.

It might not be what you are looking for, but I know that most tourist cities in Mexico rent out small displacement street legal scooters. Depending on which part of Mexico you are going to be, I have seen a few dirt bike touring/rental outfits, but these are located near the northern border especially in northern Baja. I have been interested in selling those cheap Chinese made enduros as a local side business, and as I have seen some interest in bike rentals for Mexico, I might consider getting a few to rent out of Yuma, AZ. Keep in mind that they will be by no means meant for major off-roading, but more as a vehicle to get out and about for a small period of time. I intend to buy one for evaluation, and then decide if they would be useable as a light-duty rental.

I have had the same thought, Yuma. FWIW, there is a dealer in Houston selling new 200cc Chinese Dual Sports for $750. That is in a crate, assemble yourself. They really aren't bad looking bikes. Look like 70's Japanese running gear with updated body work.

There is a rental shop in Playa del Carmen which is well located for the Yucatan. They have some KTM models. It is licated on 10th avenue. If you have interest I can email you more info when I'm there in 2 weeks.
