Border crossing Nicaragua to Honduras and on to El Salvador around 29.01.2016
Hi
I’ll be crossing from Nicaragua to Honduras and on to El Salvador on 29.01.2016 or 01.02.2016. I’m planning on crossing at Somotillo/ Guasaule & El Amatillo. Is anyone else going that way around this time as I’d love to have some company through Honduras? Does anyone have any recent advice on the border crossing process? THANKS |
Somotillo
Somotillo is a good choice for a border crossing into or out of Honduras. It’s off the PanAm, so the volume of travelers is much, much less. I crossed there in Feb 2009, so my advice is dated and general. We arrived in Somotillo and found a hotel that had a secure parking compound a block or two away. The next morning bright and early we arrived at the border and completed everything with an hour. At the early hour the pesky helpers hadn't arrived, not that we needed them. You can cross Honduras in a few hours. If you don't feel safe, stick to the main highway and ride with other traffic. You'll be in El Salvador by afternoon. Statistically, El Salvador is as risky or more so... But remember, there are millions of people that live in these countries. They wake up and go to work, then come home successfully. Violence is an outlier. You'll be fine.
