Buying and registering a bike as a foreigner in Mexico
Hi everyone!!
I'm back after years of absence :welcome: and I am now in Mexico, looking for a bike. Does anyone have any experiences buying and registering a bike in Mexico as a foreigner (who entered as a tourist) ? Thanks ! |

Put the title and registration in the name of a Mexican national friend. That is the easy method.

Hmmm, yes I see that hitting that link now leads to a dead end . Sorry about that . I will stop giving that link .
Mike used to post here quite a lot but for certain good reasons has decided to erase much of his content and google- searching for the post appears futile now . If I try to recapitulate from memory what his points were I will make errors . Basically it came down to having an address in Mexico ,be it a friend or a business, from which you could supply something like a municipal water or electric bill as a proof that you were living in the area, sort of , then going through a lawyer and the post office license plate registry . This description is woefully inadequate though. I am still digging in hope of finding more accurate info . PS as a substitute the I give you a link by another person . https://advrider.com/f/threads/mexic...18-19.1347362/ then scroll down to post# 10 |
One needs residency in Mexico to register and plate a vehicle. If you buy a foreign plated vehicle you have to register and title in in the states or where you have residency then bring the plates to Mexico. Registering the bike in a mexican nationals name will work if you plane to stay in Mexico but not if you want to cross borders
