Which Central American country for least storage/temporary importation issues?
Hi All,
Thanks for looking at my post! Currently on an RTW, but in stages and therefore the need for overwintering my bike at various locations on route. Of course there are two issues each time, firstly to find a kind and willing person to take on the storage and secondly to understand the laws of temporary importation in the particular country where the storage is required. For example some countries allow 6 months temporary importation with the possibility to extend etc... This August I'm planning on travelling from Vancouver to Panama, leaving my bike in Panama City for about 12 months before continuing on to South America. If there are big issues surrounding the bureaucracy of temporary importation in Panama then I can easily call a halt to my trip a country or two earlier such as Costa Rica or Nicaragua. So can anybody advise or throw a little light on possible options? Thanks so much! |
forget nicaragua. in both panama and CR you can "export" your bike to a bonded customs warehouse. not sure how long that is good for but i'm sure someone will come along with that info

Declan my bike is currently in Bonded storage in Panama for the past 6 months after I shipped it from Cartegena - I used an agent from there to receive it and he (supposedly) organized all of it after it arrived !
I’m going to Panama to retrieve it on 23rd November and if you want please keep on contact with me via WhatsApp and I will let you know how it goes as I might not view HUBB regularly enough ! 00971505180033 |
