Contact(s) in Mexico City and surrounding areas
¡Hola!
I am currently on route to TDF, Argentina with a tentative stopover in Mexico City. I plan on being in the area this weekend for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, but I have absolutely no idea where to begin. I've heard horror stories about driving/riding into the city. Originally, I was planning to bypass Mexico City, but since I am already this close and and the timing will be perfect for the fiesta, I cannot pass this opportunity up! If there is anyone in the area that would be willing to help me out, give me advice, pointers, on where to stay, route to take, etc. I'd greatly appreciate it! Ideally, I'd like to find a safe location outside the city where I can unload and park my bike, then take public transportation into the city - as this is what I've been told is my safest bet. I am crossing the border in Reynosa and will be in the Manuel/Tampico area tomorrow evening, Dec. 7th. My itinerary is open after that. ¡Gracias! |
Victor,
We will happily put you up and show you around. I normally meet people just outside the city and guide them in. The best location for me is BMW Lerma which is between Toluca and Mex City. Thursday would seem like a good day as it will give you a little bit of time to relax. I work from 2pm-10pm so I would have to meet you in the morning. My phone numbers are 55-58103447 (home) or 55-50052065 (work). Safe travels Garry |
Route: Reynosa, Cuidad Victoria, San Luis, Querétaro, Toluca
Garry,
Thank you for the warm invitation! I will gladly take you up on that offer. Originally, I was planning to arrive into the city from the north-west, Pachuca via Mex-85. However, to accommodate our rendezvous point, BMW Lerma, I have revised my route. Please let me know what you think: Day 1) From Reynosa go in direction of Cuidad Victoria, stay over night somewhere between Cuidad Victoria and San Luis depending on time of day, daylight, stamina, etc. Day 2) Continue to and spend the night in Querétaro - I have a contact here Day 3) Ride from Querétaro to Toluca and spend night in Toluca Day 4) Meet up with you at BMW Lerma the following day Given this itinerary, I should be in Toluca Thursday evening and be able to rendezvous with you at BMW Lerma Friday morning, barring any mishaps. Is it still all right with you if we meet up on Friday instead of Thursday? There is a possibility that I can push myself to arrive Thursday morning, however, I feel as though I'll be better off breaking my ride up than if I were to have a full day's rest before the weekend. I will call you tomorrow. Thanks again! Saludos! |
Friday is fine. BMW Lerma is between Toluca and Mexico City. You will see the BMW sign on your left among the trees as you go past a shopping mall called "Plaza Outlet" or something like that. You will need to make a u-turn after you see the sign and head back towards Toluca. I will see you there at 10:30am. If you miss the u-turn there is another a little further on.

And when you follow him through the city, make sure you use the throttle a lot and no signals :)
He was a great host and I had a ball there :) Cheers TS |

I can't recomend anywhere to stay in Toluca. You should be able to find something easliy, If you have time visit the Cosmovitral.
See you on Friday. |
I too thouroughly enjoyed my stay with Garry and family. Got introduced through Richard aka TravellingStrom and ended up staying for three nights. The ride from Garry's place into Mexico City is an experience not to be missed, if you (like me) enjoy that sort of thing :mchappy:. Took me just 45 minutes to ride to El Centro/Zócalo, no issues finding a place to park my bike. Did the same thing the next day, taking in various sites around the city. On the last day, I actually rode down again with all gear loaded during rush hour. Still, only took me an hour. But again; you have to be into this kind of thing...
Enjoy, Vincent |
