Copper Canyon meeting? Ferries?
I have checked older posts about ferries from Baja to the Mexican mainland. So far I have only seen schedules for ferries from La Paz to Mazatlan, La Paz to Topolobombo.
In 1998 I took the ferry from Santa Rosalia to Guaymas. But following various links listed I found NO schedule showing that this ferry still runs. I checked these links to no avail: http://www.bajaferries.com.mx/ http://www.sematur.com.mx/ http://www.ferrysantarosalia.com/ The Santa Rosalia URL is dead. The others mention a Santa Rosalia ferry but links to the site are dead too. I am planning a repeat of my first Copper Canyon trip and was wondering if anybody knows a way to confirm if this Ferry is dead or not. Oddly, I rode past the Ferry Office in Santa Rosalia just last December and it all looked up and running but there was no Ferry in port at the time. The Topo ferry sounds like a good alternative but it means riding to La Paz. Any Help. Patrick San Rafael, CA |
Patrick:
Ferry from Santa Rosalía to Guaymas departs Tue/Fri/Sun 8:00 PM Fares: Motorcycle US$91.- Passenger (Adult) US$55.- More info: http://www.ferrysantarosalia.com |
Thanks Navegante for the info.
The link posted is STILL DEAD. Black page is all thats there. NO INFO. In '98 I crossed with a bike. About '$65 US with the bike, myself in a shared "cabina". I'm afraid the current operators will price themselves out of business. That is very expensive for a seven hour ride. If a motorcycle is $91 US I wonder how much a semi truck is? And how can they afford it? |
Patrick: www.santarosalia.com is not dead. Yes, it's black at the beginning but if you wait it will come 'alive'. It has a big photo and maybe is to heavy and gets some time to be loaded.
Anyhow, you can e-mail them: ventas@ferrysantarosalia.com or opn@ferrysantarosalia.com You may contact them by phone: from USA to Santa Rosalía: (001-52-615)152-1246 From USA to Guaymas: (001-52-622) 222-0204 There is also a call free number: (01-800) 672-9053 |
Muchas Gracias para todo!

Back in Nov. '03 I took the ferry from Santa Rosalia to Guaymas(about 10 hours). Before reaching Santa Rosalia, people said that ferry no longer ran. It wasn't till I got there that I found out for sure. Can't remember cost, but wasn't cheap.--Porter ------------------ on the road(almost) and lovin' it!! KLR650-A13 'BURRO' |
I took the ferry a few days ago. $135 with bike to sleep outside.Expensive.
Hurricane Javier turned the water up a bit, and the ride was 11 hours. The weather here in Creel is beautiful, finally out of the horrible weather in Sinaloa! |
Thanks for the current info Dean. Sounds like you got some blow over from the recent "tormentos".
Did you take the Ferry from Santa Rosalia or from La Paz.? Seems to me, when I took that ride its only took about 6 or 8 hours. We shared a cabin and paid about $65 each total for one bike, each person. But that was back in 1998. Ancient history within the Mexican economy. How are the prices in Creel? Many riders there yet? Are you staying around for the HU meeting? Have a great ride, rubber side down! Patrick |
Hi again,
I crossed from Santa Rosalia to Guaymas. It is a very small boat, with very limited space (always room for one more bike!) Creel was not as expensive as Baja. Quite reasonable considering the remoteness of the area. Unfortunately, i had to leave the area. I am starting studies in Guanajuato (where i just arrived last night) but i will make it back! Amazing terrain and landscapes! HAve fun, Dean |
